Anonymous Donors. How are they handled within Overflow?

Respect a donor's privacy and acknowledge them properly.

Donors may choose to remain anonymous for multiple reasons, but no matter what those are, it is the receiving 501c3 organization's responsibility to respect their choice and appropriately manage the gift. At Overflow, we have set up anonymous giving in such a way that your donors can indicate their preference for anonymity but you as the receiving organization will have visibility into the donor's personal information so that you can properly acknowledge their gift and send the necessary tax information. This allows your organization to administer the gift according to your internal policies. It is important to note that anonymous donors select to be anonymous so that their donation is not publicly acknowledged in any way. We will leave it up to your discretion who has access to the Dashboard in order to properly gate personal information.

THE DONOR EXPERIENCE

Donors can choose to remain anonymous within the giving experience across all asset classes by selecting the checkbox at the end of the giving experience.

THE RECEIVING ORGANIZATION EXPERIENCE

Within your Dashboard, contributions on which a donor has chosen to remain anonymous will be displayed like any other transaction on Overflow and include the donor's full name, personal information, and donation details. However, you'll know the donor has chosen to remain anonymous by the blue flag icon that appears beside their name within the Contributions tab. When hovering over the flag the message, "Be careful - the donor wishes to remain anonymous for this contribution" will appear.

It is important that the donor's information is available within the Dashboard so that you can send an IRS-compliant acknowledgment letter should they wish to deduct the charitable gift from their taxes. All admins that have been granted access to your Overflow Dashboard will be able to view the donor's information. We recommend restricting access to your Dashboard to team members that have been trained on your organization's anonymous gift policies to ensure the contribution is managed properly.

NOTE: We will be releasing user permissions in a future iteration of the Dashboard.
