Setting Up Epson Check Scanners in Overflow

This article walks through how to set up and use compatible Epson check scanners with Overflow's Check Scanning feature. This allows churches and nonprofits to digitize physical checks and import them directly into their dashboard for manual review and processing.

📋 Requirements Before You Begin

• Open batch in Gift Entry
• Compatible Epson scanner powered on
• Ethernet cable connection to your device (USB-C adapter needed for Macs)
• Access to scanner's IP address from its display menu

📝 Setup Instructions

1. Power on your Epson scanner
2. Connect the scanner via Ethernet
   • Use an Ethernet cable to connect the scanner directly to your computer or network.
   • Mac users: use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter if needed.
3. Obtain the scanner's IP address
   • On the TM-S9000II-NW, press and hold both menu buttons to display network information on-screen.
   • For TM-S1000II-NW, use Epson's mobile app and WiFi adapter to get the IP.
4. Log in to your Overflow account and go to the Gift Entry section.
5. Open an active batch. Check Scanning is only available for open batches.
6. Click the Check Scanning tab (visible next to "Manual" and "Upload CSV")

7. Enter the scanner's IP address into the field provided and click "Connect to Scanner"

📄 Scanning Checks

Once connected:

• Begin scanning by inserting checks (max 50 per session).
• Overflow captures the check images and reads MICR (account/routing/check #).
• AI extracts donor name, amount, and date from the check image (manual correction available).
• Assign campus and fund manually before importing each gift.
