Understanding Refunds and Chargebacks

Learn how refunds work for donations, which fees are non-refundable, and what to expect if a transaction is disputed as a chargeback.

Refunds

A refund is a voluntary return of a donation initiated by your organization. It's the simplest way to return funds to a donor when needed.

  • ✅ When a donation is refunded, the full amount is returned to the donor with no additional fees.
  • ❌ The processing fees from the original transaction are non-refundable.

Chargebacks

A chargeback occurs when a donor disputes a transaction directly with their bank or card issuer, prompting the payment processor to reverse the charge.

  • ↩️ This applies to both card and ACH transactions. (Since ACH payments are processed through a bank, any reversal is treated as a chargeback.)
  • ⚠️ If a transaction is disputed as a chargeback, additional fees may apply.
