Per-Transaction Maximum
Online Donations
The maximum amount for a single online transaction is $999,999.
💳 Cards & Digital Wallets
Donors can give any amount up to the transaction maximum, as long as their card issuer approves the transaction.
Note: Card issuers may set their own daily and per-transaction limits. If a donor is planning a large gift, we recommend advising them to check with their bank ahead of time.
🏦 ACH (Bank Transfer)
For added security, any ACH donation over $5,000 is placed on a brief hold (3–5 business days) while the donor's bank confirms the transaction. Timing can vary by institution.
Manual Donations
💵 Cash & Check
Physical cash and check gifts can be recorded in the Gift Entry tool, up to $9,999,999.99. (These donations are deposited directly with your bank.)
FAQs
Are There Transaction Limits on Overflow?
Overflow supports a generous $999,999 limit per online transaction, well above what many traditional platforms allow. Most large gifts can be given in a single transaction without extra steps.
Are These Limits the Same for Every Account?
Not always! The specific limits available may vary depending on your organization's account configuration. If you'd like to confirm your current limits or discuss adjusting them, please contact us.
Do Large Donors Need to Split Gifts Into Multiple Transactions?
- Thanks to the high per-transaction limit, donors can usually give their full gift in a single transaction. No workarounds needed. 🙌🏽
- Note: Each transaction supports a single fund, so donors giving to multiple funds will need to submit separate donations.
How Does Overflow Protect Against Fraud on Large Transactions?
Overflow uses real-time fraud monitoring designed to catch suspicious activity while still allowing legitimate large gifts to go through smoothly.
