Overflow automatically sends helpful email notifications to donors whenever there’s an update related to their recurring gift. These messages are designed to keep donors informed and make it easy for them to take action if needed.
Types of Notifications Donors May Receive
Here are the automated emails donors might receive based on their recurring gift activity:
🛑 Recurring Gift Canceled
This email is sent when a donor cancels their recurring gift, either through their Donor Profile or when it's canceled through your nonprofit's Dashboard.
- 📧 Subject: Your recurring donation to <Nonprofit> has been canceled
- ✅ It also includes a link to easily start a new recurring gift if they’d like to resume their support.
⏳ Card Expiring Soon
This email is sent 30 days before a saved credit/debit card is set to expire, reminding the donor to update their payment method to to prevent any disruption to future donations. (In some cases, we can automatically update the expiration date if the donor hasn't done so.)
- 📧 Subject: [Action Required] Your payment method is expiring
- 💳 It also includes a custom link to update the payment method directly through their Donor Profile.
🚫 Payment Method Declined
This email is sent when a recurring donation cannot be processed, usually due to an expired or declined payment method. It prompts the donor to add a new payment method to keep their giving active.
- 📧 Subject: [Action Required] Your recurring gift to <Nonprofit> has failed
- 🔁 It also includes a personalized link to restart their recurring gift directly from their Donor Profile.
